The 'bikefriendly' revolution of the Pyrenees hotels
Tired of having to store the bicycle in the potato room or in the dirty garages of the hotels, a group of friends decided to create the badge Bikefriendly, which will guarantee a well-conditioned accommodation for cyclists. They already have more than 30 hotels in the Pyrenees.
And is that many cyclists find that they never have a right place to leave your bicycles, not to mention repair or learn how to make new routes on wheels. The idea of the bikefriendly label came about a year and a half ago, during a meal of friends in Roda de Isábena, who decided to do something to tackle this problem. Today the network has more than 30 accommodations scattered throughout the Pyrenees. Here we find from large luxury hotels to small country houses. "Bicycle touring encompasses all types of clients, from the one that moves at the hostel level, to the one that values a good spa and a fantastic dinner at a five-fork restaurant. For this reason, the network is made up of such varied accommodations as the Almadraba Park Hotel, a four-star hotel, or El Caserío de Fatás, a charming, small and familiar rural house, "he tells us Rut Parrés, one of the members. "All hotels are compatible with the good care of the guest bike, a more mountaineer or more luxury customer, but always, deep down, a cyclist, ”adds this Catalan.
For a hotel to be considered bikefriendly, it is not only enough to allow the entrance of bicycles to the accommodation. This must also have a series of basic requirements and services that make it a true space where the cyclist (and especially his bike) can comfortably stay.

2. A workshop
To get the bike ready before embarking on a new trip, the hotel must have a workshop where you can repair the small setbacks that may arise. The workshop will have the necessary tools, accessories and additional information regarding specialized stores (if any specific piece is necessary), workshops outside the accommodation, etc.
3. Bike wash
To remove the mud or those small stones that remain on the bicycle, it is essential that the housing has a space for washing with pressurized water with adequate power to avoid damaging any component of the bike. This space can be found in an outdoor or covered area, but always well ventilated, near the workshop and bike storage spaces. The cleaning and drying of some of the bicycle parts are very important in order to prevent future mechanical problems during the trip.

The vast majority of Bikefriendly accommodations are located in the Transpyrenean Route, although Rut and his partners work to create new accommodation networks in the different routes of the National Santiago Road, the Sierra de Gúdar (in Teruel), the Vía de la Plata Y the Trans Al-Andalus. “When implementing accommodations bikefriendly We look very well at the type of cycling route that can be developed in that territory: a wine route, a gastronomic route, a route over the Romanesque ... These routes serve as a point of union between the accommodations. Our work also serves to boost the area by promoting its different tourist interests. Spain is a potential cyclist in itself, every area has something interesting to visit by bicycle, ”he says.
The accommodation network bicycle friends It also seeks to cover the needs of cyclists traveling to big cities. According to Ruth, “although some of the services may be somewhat different, the concept is the same.” They will be known as the accommodations Bikefriendly Urban.
